Our Work

Voting is a sacred and fundamental right. For nearly 100 years, we have fought to protect the rights of eligible voters and expand access for those who’ve been left out of our democratic process. Our volunteers spearhead efforts to enact common-sense voting reforms and we are the first to fight back when voters’ rights are threatened. We protect millions of voters every year through advocacy and education efforts and we have been at the forefront of major voting rights court cases over the last decade. We are dedicated to ensuring that our elections remain free, fair and accessible. The League of Women Voters of New Jersey is a leading voting rights and good government organization in the state.

Expanding Voter Access

The League of Women Voters of New Jersey was a lead organization winning the fight for automatic voter registration in our state, but our work is far from over. We are working to restore the right to vote to people with criminal convictions, expand in-person early voting opportunities, implement online voter registration, and more.

Redistricting Reform

Fair Districts New Jersey is a nonpartisan coalition fighting to reform New Jersey’s redistricting process.

We believe redistricting should be impartial and transparent. By maximizing public input in the process and instituting an independent citizens commission, we can put power where it belongs - in the hands of voters!




Money in Politics

Elections should be about the voters not big money interests. It’s time to limit SuperPACs and secret donors to protect representative democracy. The League of Women Voters of New Jersey is working right now on campaign finance bills.

Healthy Democracy

Our government should be open, accountable, and transparent. We support strengthening open public meetings and records laws to ensure that residents can access information about the decisions their officials are making.

Recent Actions:
LWVNJ Board Director Henal Patel testified on the League's behalf at the Judicial Conference on Jury Selection. The Conference aimed to examine implicit bias in jury selection. The League's testimony argued that "democracy is multi-faceted and could not function without a judiciary that serves, reflects, and engages the people."
